What You Need to Know About the Carnival Horizon

When & Where

Sean and I traveled on the Carnival Horizon in May 2022 to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao from Miami, FL. This was to celebrate my 30th Birthday and Masters Degree Graduation! *cue the confetti*

Room

We opted for a balcony on the seventh level and it was ah-mazing! It was close to the Lido deck and also close to the main dining room. Our level was very quiet, but we do always try to get our room to the back of the ship (insider tip).

Havana Rooms

We did notice there are Havana balcony rooms with their own “private” balconies with lounge chairs. I say private in air quotes because they were far from private (at least from looking down 2 stories). There is an outside corridor that acts as a pathway from the Havana (private) pool directly to those staterooms. So essentially everyone walking down the pathway will see into your “private” balcony area. Either way, the Havana balconies seemed like a nice place to layout, read, and just relax without the hustle and bustle of the Lido deck.

The “Fun” Ship

The Carnival Horizon was one of the best ships we have been on! It had enough activities to keep you busy (if you wanted to). From shuffleboard, table tennis, an obstacle course, the skyride, a movie theater (for a cost), a big casino, pools, serenity deck, and GREAT comedy – you can’t run out of activities!

So as a word of advice, going out of Miami, sometimes you can have some interesting ‘characters’, *apologies, I mean fellow cruisers* onboard. I’m not complaining – just know you will probably have some built-in entertainment complimentary  You never know if you might have an aspiring actor or actress on board, some *wonderful* pre-cruise spray tans, or that one guy who all of the staff know because he is on his 100th cruise.

Where’s the Booze

The bar staff did seem “eager to sell” more than on some of the other ships. TIP: I did notice that all of the slushy-type drinks did not taste like their was any alcohol in them. By the second or third day, I decided to start drinking martinis because I could definitely taste the alcohol in them. *Hey, what’s the point of wasting calories if you don’t feel a buzz?*

Service

The service was good. It is a larger and newer ship so I did feel that their was adequate staff for the amount of guests.

Food

We ate breakfast in the dining room almost every morning as the food just tasted better (and we like being bougie on vacation and being waited on). We ate Guys Burger Joint or the burrito location on the Lido Deck everyday. Then we ate in the dining room for dinner each night. The food was nothing ‘to write home about’.
