Costa Maya Cruise Port

While cruising on the amazing Carnival Celebration, one of our cruise stops was to the great Costa Maya, Mexico. If you have the chance to visit this port, please venture out of your comfort zone and go explore the island (although the port is very nice). Pictures from the port are below:

Taxis

Instead of staying in port, you should plan on venturing out to the Mahajual Fishing Village. While most cruisers take the $4.00 per person taxi ride to the village, we saw many folks (with their families) walking as well.   We decided to take the taxi because this was our first time venturing to the Village.

Getting to the Village

Immediately departing the taxi, we started to hear shouts “the beach is this way” – do yourself a favor and just follow the shouting to your left – the short alley will take you directly to the beach and shopping.  Ignoring the constant “you want a massage?” and the street vendors hawking their wares, it was a pleasant 2 mile walk along the promenade (little dirty but safe) and back.

Lunch

After our nice walk, we ended up at the Krazy Lobster for lunch which was fabulous!  With a 4.5 star rating on Trip Advisor, be sure to check out this great lunch spot! Service was great, food was pretty authentic Mexican, and the table on the beach overlooking the cruise ship was unforgettable. Don’t be alarmed (like we were) when you look at your bill as its not in US currency. Your mouth will be drooling once you take a look at the pictures below.

Quick trip back to the boat and 5 hours of the day went by without even noticing the time.  While definitely not as clean and organized as the cruise port, if you are up for a little adventure (but still feel safe), spending some time in the Mahujual Fishing Village is not to be missed.
