We LOVE travel tips and this travel tip is one of the BEST! Before booking your flight to the city you are traveling to – do some research to see if there are other airports nearby! You might have to drive a little further to your destination or catch a longer UBER, but the savings could add up quickly and make this a viable and cost-saving option!

Traveling to Miami, FL (MIA)

Taken in 2016 during our honeymoon

Alternative airport: Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, FL (FLL)

  • Distance: ~26 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: Ft. Lauderdale is not far from Miami, so why not look into flights into/out of FLL?

Alternative airport: Palm Beach International Airport, FL (PBI)

  • Distance: ~71 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: Palm Beach airport is one of cheapest airports in the United States, so why wouldn’t you look into this airport? From reference, an UBER ride from PBI to MIA is about give or take $50 one way. You can drastically save hundreds of dollars by switching to this airport. Also, this airport is not as busy and chaotic as MIA.

Traveling to Dallas, TX (DFW)

Taken in 2022 at Dallas vs. Detroit game

Alternative airport: Dallas Love Field Airport, TX (DAL)

  • Distance: ~16 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: As these two airports are so close to each other, it can’t hurt to look into which airport has better prices and better flights, right?

Traveling to Washington, DC (DCA)

Taken in 2018 when on a weekend visit

Alternative airport: Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI)

  • Distance: ~37 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: BWI can be far cheaper than DCA. If you have extra time, this airport may be a better option.

Alternative airport: Dulles International Airport (IAD)

  • Distance: ~30 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: Depending on where you ultimately need to visit, Dulles airport may be a better option. DC is such a large spread-out city, that many contractors and large companies are closer to IAD vs. BWI or DCA. Do some research beforehand to see what airport will work better for you. Beware, traffic getting in and out of IAD is very bad.

Traveling to New York, NY (JFK)

Oldie but Goodie – Taken back in 2013 in front of the Ice Skating Rink and Christmas Tree

Alternative airport: Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP)

  • Distance: ~43 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: New York is of course a very busy city and the city that never sleeps! There is no need to start your vacation on the wrong foot – fly into ISP and you don’t have to immediately jump into the hustle-and-bustle of the city!

Traveling to Chicago, IL (ORD)

#Chicago #Vacation #Travel #CheapTrips #VacationTips

Alternative airport: Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport, WI (MKE)

  • Distance: ~73 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: Chicago O’Hare airport is one of the worst airports to fly into, so why not fly into Milwaukee – a notoriously cheaper airport!

Traveling to Atlanta, GA (ATL)

Alternative airport: Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport, Alabama (BHM)

  • Distance: ~150 miles
  • Reasons to switch airports: As ATL is one of the world’s busiest airports, why on earth would you want to fly into this crazy airport? If you allow extra time (~150 miles), you should fly into BHM as this is airport is known to typically be cheaper than the national average.

Happy Traveling! xoxo Megan & Sean
